New CEOs, especially ones from outside the industry, get a 12% increase in share price if they present to investors early on in their tenure. So says the research of Whittington, Yakis‐Douglas and Ahn, written up in the Strategic Management Journal in December 2016.
Yet, they point out, only 40 percent of new CEOs present on strategy in their first 200 days post-appointment.
